The Free Money Advice Service has been setup by the government to provide impartial advice on most financial matters but is particularly good on Equity Release.

Equity Release is a minefield but a necessary minefield! Get it right and older people can raise money on their property - potentially allowing them to afford to stay in their homes for the rest of their lives. Get it wrong and they can accumulate an enormous debt and effectively disinherit their children as the finance company claims their home in order to repay the accumulated loan when they die. The link below may help you decide whether this might be a useful route to go down. However just as importantly consider using a financial adviser.
This is a simple AgeUK Equity Release calculator which will help you find out how much an equity release loan would allow you to raise on your house.

Without question Jackie is fantastic at making complex issues as easy as can be with sound advice.

Jackie and her team have been providing me with Financial Advice for several years now. Jackie is always very thorough about the advice she offers to make sure you understand the information and that it fits your needs. Jackie is always very professional and trustworthy – thanks for sorting my finances out for me.

Lloyds Bank

59 High St, Swadlincote DE11 8JA, UK – 0345 300 0000

The bank is good - when you can find it open! They have some ridicous timings, I mean who closes at 4:30 on weekdays? Better still I'm pretty sure the doors get locked a little earlier than that if no one is around. It just doesn't give people, who work for cash, the chance to pay it in. The staff are friendly enough, they do like pushing you toward the auto pay in machine though. However its stolen my card and half of my money before. I got it back within a few minutes but it was bloody scary as it decided to eat my holiday money! Over all a 3 star experience. The place is a little pushy - in a friendly way - but the opening hours really let it down.

I have had to visit the Customer Service desk at the bank several times over the past few months for various reasons and have been dealt with by a different member of staff each time with the same curtiuous and helpful manner.

Barclays Bank

What a wonderful branch of Barclays. The staff are so helpful and friendly service. It's so nice to interact with a person not a machine. I have been coming here for many years now and would recommend this Branch to family and friends. Keep up the good work.

Mixed feelings after every visit. The staff are friendly and are sometimes helpful but are helpful as they can be. Would be nicer if they were open an hour longer for people who work in the day. Usually find myself asking how to do things as they leave me to it after telling me what i need to do

Always manages to deliver good friendly service

Mortgage Brokers - Key Questions

How much do mortgage brokers charge?
Typically, a broker will actually be paid around 0.35% of the mortgage loan as commission from your the lender. So, for every £100,000 borrowed, they would receive £700 in commission - if they are on commission. Many will therefore not charge for their advise if they are. However they maybe tied to specific companies and so may not be able to offer the best deal. Start with your bank. They will know you personally and financially - hopefully! They will tell you about their mortgages and you can use them as a base line to compare products found by mortgage brokers around Swadlincote.

Is it better to get mortgage from bank or broker?
This question will be answered by this initial mortgage research. You may hit it lucky and find that your bank can give you the best deal - but do check with a mortgage broker first.

How do I find a good mortgage broker?
Don't write off the financial comparison websites. Moneysupermarket is full of good advise on how to find mortgage brokers and may even be able to point you around Granville School that they particularly recommend - although will be on commission themselves! Click the link below to go the the right part of Moneysupermarket.

Are mortgage brokers worth it?
Probably yes and we are not on commission! You are free to the these ones a ring - it could really worth it.
